It is really a difficult question for me to make my website popular and I am still seeking answer for it.

Well, what have you done so far? Do you have a plan? I think like everything else you need a detailed plan how to publicize and stick with it. Tell me what you have done so far and I can give you some ideas of what worked and did not for me!

I have purchased a fitness website from ebay and I don't know how to promote it.

I built a free image hosting website, called FotoFly and its at http://www.fotofly.jamesmartin.tv and at first, I struggled with promotion, but now, I think I am at no.4 or no.3 in Google's search results.

If people themselves have to reach your site, your website should rank above in the search result.
But you can bring immediate traffic to your website through 'pay per clicks' ad campaign. You need some investment and proper financial plannign to budget your campaign.
