My wife is Korean and speaks English as well.  Both of my kids are fluent in English and Korean.  I can say that there are great benefits to this and no downside that I can see.  It will definitely help them with job hunting and others just love it when they speak Korean.

I think having two languages or even more is a benefit, not only for education but for the future. I always wanted to learn more languages, and I hope that if I have children in the future to give them more chances in learning new languages.

I think it also brings cultures together, being able to communicate is a necessary skill in society.

Peal and Lambert (1962) concluded, after finding in their study that bilinguals were better academically at school compared to monolinguals, that bilinguals weren't at a disadvantage in intelligence. And also wrote:

"It is impossible to state from the present study whether the more intelligent child became bilingual or whether bilingualism aided his intellectual development."

Which one do you think it is? Is it the intelligence that aids in bilingualism? or Is it the bilingualism that aids in intelligence? Is there any reason to why you think it is that one?

Please participate in the questionnaire for this research. I've got other questions besides this one, which I really need responses for.
