A research has shown that losing weight through calorie restriction alone will reduce the mineral density of bones and increases the risk for osteoporosis. Two groups were formed among forty eight healthy, non-obese people in their 50s. The first group reduced calorie intake by 16 per cent in the first three months and then 20 per cent for the rest of the year. The second group was made to spend energy-that means exercise-by 16 percent in the first three months and then by 20 per cent for the following nine months. Their heart rate was monitored during that period. The Results: The group under calorie restriction, that is diet, lost an average of about 17 pounds and the exercise group about 14 pounds. But the diet group lost bone density at the spine, hips and logs. There was no significant change in bone density for the group under exercise. The results appeared in The archives of Internal Medicine. But the sample was not large and didn't examine sex differences in bone density responses. They recommend both diet and exercise in any weight-loss program. That way you can get the benefit of diet and prevent negative effect on bone health. sankarapandian

just look at those people who say they are calorie restrictionists - they say they eat limited calories for overall health - they are SO skinny but their bones and the rest of them are in top shape.

I believe that exercise is the key to loosing weight in a better way. The moment you start exercising, you already feel better.

A sensible amount of exercise has a lot of benefits. It can help lift the mood, it's good for your heart, and it's helps your body heal faster.

I am in favor of exercise only and if you plan an exercise you could achieve the desired weight loss.
