For me, one of the hardest things about Korean is learning to recognize and pronounce aspirated, non-aspirated, and glottalized consonants. How do you learn to hear the difference between ㅂ,ㅍ, and ㅃ, for example? The other day I was reading an interesting web page that mentioned that even in English we have aspirated consonants. Consider the difference between the 'p' in 'pin' and 'spin'. There is more air used to pronounce the 'p' when saying 'pin'. After repeating the words a couple times, I could hear the difference. It's subtle, but it's there! Linguists would say that the 'p' in 'pin' is aspirated. And the 'p' in 'spin' is glottalized. The ㅍ and ㅃ are kind of like this, with the ㅂ being somewhere in-between. So maybe it's not so hard after all! By the way, here's that website I referred to: http://langintro.com/kintro/aspirate.htm
