For me, Kyudo is among the best Japanese Disciplines.
The 'sports' derived from old Samurai times and is the oldest Japanese martial arts. The first appearance of the bow goes back to the 4th century or our time.

While the slow motion of the shooting procedure is a feature, it is just an aspect of the try of a Kyudo-ka to make every shot a perfect shot.
The international kyudo federation sees the highest value in 'shin-zen-bi', which means roughly translated 'truth-benevolence-aesthetics'.

The number of practitioners is growing every year. 2007 marks a milestone in the expansion of the sports, as foundation of the international kyudo federation is taking place, with many ceremonies all over the year.
Have a look at http://www.ikyf.org/ if you want to learn more.
I would be happy to discuss with you more about my favourite sports.

Also, I myself am looking for information on the 'Bishu Chikurin'-school of shooting according to IKYF rules. If you have material about this or can recommend online resources, please contact me!!
(Just on a side-note, I'm looking for the school history, ceremony styles, famous archers of the school etc. I do not look for information on the Shibata-style though, as this is a seperate branch of Bishu Chikurin school.)
