How do people in the hunting community see the Dick Cheney hunting fiasco? Just an accident as in these things happen? Or is it a joke? (Of course, its not a joke - especially to his friend who was so terribly injured..)

I see it as one more reason for people to dismiss hunting. This is the reason there are hunting safety courses. Many people do not care for hunting, that is fine. I hope that their decision is not based on isolated incidents like this and those stereotypes that portray hunters as stupid drunkards with little regard for life or nature. I've been hunting all my life and consider it a privilege. Most all of our ancestors had to hunt to live and while it is not necessary to do so these days, it still is a source of pride and accomplishment to provide meals for your family and others by means of hunting. If you see anyone 'hunting' who is drunk, disrepectful, dangerous he or she is not a 'hunter', they are anything but. Ethical hunting combined with proper game management provides food and revenue for the community. It ensures that animals are kept at populations that are not too large. Over-population leads to animal starvation because the land can't support them. I hope this answers your question and also the one you posted here: Never understood hunting...
