The key to raising lean kids may be sleep. Scientists have discovered that children who don't get enough sleep are more likely to be overweight than those who do according to a recent study. In the study, just one extra hour of sleep cut the likelihood of being overweight from 36 percent to 30 percent in children ages 3 to 8, and from 34 to 30 percent in those ages 8 to 13. The rule of thumb on how much is enough for ages 5 to 12, 10 to 11 hours a night and teens 8 to 9 hours.

But are they overweight because they don't get enough sleep, or are they not getting enough sleep because they're overweight? And if they got more exercise wouldn't they need more sleep anyway?

Skinny is not the goal with any programs for kids - its about good health, exercise, and healthy eating!
