I read an article that said lots of teenage girls use vegetarianism and veganism as a cover for anorexia. (I can't eat that because I'm a vegetarian. I don't want to eat with you because you eat meat and I think that's gross. etc.) I was wondering if anyone had run across any statistics related to this.

Actually I haven't seen any statistics for that, but definitely sounds like a very high possibility. I'm just thinking of a kid I know. She is 17, very very skinny, and she is always saying she doesn't eat that or the other because she is vegan. I think I should alert her mother and see what happens then.

Interesting thought. A vegan diet does take a lot of work to stay healthy and I'd hope their parents would be involved in it.

I never thought about that before but that makes sense because no one would bother someone if they said it..
