In my old job one of the girls in marketing went from a little plump to anorexia requiring hospitalization after her dad died all in the matter of three or four months. She was teaming up tons of exercise with almost no food. I had no idea that the disease could progress that quickly. Is that the norm? Or does it usually take longer to hit a critical point?

the progression can take years! It might have been a combination of things - stress, depression etc that all just lead to the breakdown of here body. That is so really very sad.

That sounds pretty bad. The anorexics I've known, have taken years into it. But maybe your co-worker was avoiding other things in her life and found total control refusing food.

She combined almost no food because she was upset with 4-6 hours of exercise a day to help her with insomnia and stress. The saddest thing is that she wouldn't agree to treatment and her family had to wait until she was at the brink of death to have her committed and tube fed.

is so scary because its hard to tell women (girls) that its wrong when hollywood celebs are prancing around talking about getting into their size 0 sample sizes... I dont mean to blame them. but I DO!

It is really sad to know that and I have never heard sudden consequences due to poor intake of food.
